Rev. William F. Carey, Pastor Emeritus

Fr. Carey is Pastor Emeritus at St. Agnes. He was born and raised in Bridgeport CT. He was educated at Fairfield Prep, Mt. Saint Mary’s College (BA Philosophy), and Fairfield University (MA Counseling).

He was Ordained for the Diocese of Bridgeport by Bishop Curtis in 1967. His diocesan assignments included Assistant Pastor at St. Mary in Norwalk, St Charles in Bridgeport, In Residence at St. Mary in Bethel, teacher and counselor at Immaculate High School in Danbury, and Assistant Pastor at St. Mary in Greenwich.

He joined the United States Army as a Chaplain in 1980 where he served for 26 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military education started with Chaplain Basic Course. He attended Air Assault School as a Chaplain for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). His military education culminated with Command & General Staff College. In addition to numerous Stateside assignments, he served two overseas tours in Germany. He has served at the Battalion, Brigade, and Installation Chaplain levels.

He was a writer, instructor, and staff member at the United States Army Chaplain Center and School. He retired from the military in 2004, was recalled to active duty and separated from the Army in 2006. He then served as Pastor of St. Agnes from 2006-2010, at which time he retired and became Pastor Emeritus.
